Take On A Leadership Role

We run an intensive program that requires considerable backcountry experience as well as experience teaching skill sessions. A director should have experience with backpacking, camping, teaching skills and lessons, managing staff and gear, as well as other related outdoor skills. Experiences like NOLS or Outward Bound are highly preferred. A majority of our backpacking trips utilize the trails in Pisgah National Forest, though we do also venture into the Nantahala National Forest and Linville Gorge Area.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct a staff of four to five instructors.
  • Instruct outdoor skills and environmental ethics.
  • Create program lesson plans.
  • Lead hiking and backpacking trips up to a maximum of five days in length.

Qualifications

At least 21 years of age with hiking and backpacking experience. A strong desire to work with youth. Outward Bound or NOLS experience highly preferred. Clean driving record and Wilderness First Responder certification.
